Holiday Beach Washroom
2015
Passa Architects designed this renovation and addition to an existing washroom facility at the water’s edge in the Holiday Beach Conservation Area near Amherstburg, Ontario. The majority of the existing washroom structure was maintained and was renovated which along with the new addition transformed the structure into a sustainable, net-positive and energy efficient showcase for the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA). The facility has the capability to run entirely on solar power including a thermal hot water tank for the plumbing facilities and has a green roof installed on the entire flat portion of the structure. The roof also consists of a sloped shed for a north facing light monitor complete with large windows which, combined with light tubes allows ample daylight to penetrate to the center of the building. Energy efficient LED lighting and low flow fixtures further add to the sustainable and efficient design. The building was completed in the Spring of 2015.
